VICTORY BREWING JOINS UP TO CELEBRATE VICTORY OVER PROHIBITION DAY

VICTORY TO RELEASE THROWBACK LAGER IN COMMEMORATION

(Downingtown, PA) — Victory Brewing Company will once again observe “Victory over Prohibition Day” (VoP Day) Friday, April 6, 2007. Prohibition ended on that date at midnight leading the nation away from 13 years without legal production or consumption of alcoholic beverages. Special beer offers and commemorative gifts celebrating this historic event will be incorporated into the celebration. At 9PM there will be a toast to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was instrumental in the repeal of Prohibition.

The pleasure of flavorful beer will be celebrated at a range of eating and drinking establishments from 5 to 10PM on April 6. Most notably, VoP Day celebrations will take place at all Kildare’s locations (http://www.kildarespub.com/) in the greater Philadelphia area, all P.J. Whelihan’s restaurants (http://www.pjspub.com/index.htm) in New Jersey, and at the Victory Brewing Restaurant (http://www.victorybeer.com). Festivities will also take place at additional Victory accounts including; the Drafting Room Springhouse, Union Jack's Boyertown, Spinnerstown Hotel, Blue Dog Chalfont, Blue Dog Lansdale, Brother Paul's, Capone's, Ortino's, Union Jack's Congo, Grey Lodge Pub, Mad Mex, and the Ugly Moose.

Featured at participating taverns celebrating the event will be Throwback Lager, a crisp, lighter bodied, yet still wholly flavorful brew at 5.4% ABV. As a rare pre-Prohibition lager, Throwback Lager incorporates yeast from the C. Schmidt Brewery of Philadelphia and a small portion of brewer's corn to recreate an 'industrial' lager of the turn of the century.

Victory’s observance will be more than a mere celebration of suds, it will commemorate the resurgence of craft brewing in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1898 there were 198 active breweries in and around the city making the area one of the premiere American brewing centers of the day. This honorable and vital industry virtually disappeared with the passing of the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which was ratified on January 16, 1919, and took effect one year later on the same date. From Prohibition’s repeal it has taken nearly 60 years for the resurgence of brewing to take place and bring the number of US breweries close to pre-Prohibition levels. Currently, there are six breweries that are in operation locally, Victory being one of them.
